Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) is a technology used primarily in headphones that can effectively suppress outside noise. This means that only a fraction of outside noise is perceptible - no noisy cars, the aeroplane turbine muted, the hiss of the air conditioner gone. The physical process behind ANC is called anti-sound.
